“How’s it going? I don’t like sitting on my arse, unless I'm driving. I get up at 5am and like to get out on my bike before work. When I'm pedalling, I think ‘I'm so lucky to be able to be out doing this.’ I'm addicted to work, I don’t like routine but I like things to be a certain way, if that makes sense.
I like doing things my way, the right way. I've had my eyes opened for the last ten years or more and I'm still learning. I’m always looking for a new challenge but sometimes the challenges seem to find me. Keep at it, ta, Guy.”
A bit about Guy...
Guy was born and bred in Lincolnshire, where he lives with his missus, daughter and three dogs. In his twenties he spent some time in Ireland working and racing, but since then has never lived more than 10 miles from where he grew up.
Guy is a lorry mechanic by trade having earned an apprenticeship with Volvo when he was 16, and has worked for various commercial vehicle companies including his Dad’s business. Over the years Guy's ended up doing loads of random jobs as well, from shovelling coal down the docks to glass collecting in a pub in Grimsby, just to try and earn enough money to go racing.
Guy still works as a lorry mechanic, doing servicing and MOT work for a haulage company, while also working for a local farm, doing any job he can get his hands on. Guy also has a busy engineering business building engines for competitive race teams.
He began road racing on motorbikes in 2003, and today still races on classic bikes every now and again. In 2010 someone suggested he could do more than talk about motorbikes and so he started doing some TV jobs based on stuff he loves. It gives him some unique opportunities to travel, meet and learn from interesting folk, and set a few records along the way. No scripts, no bull shit, just get on with it!
Right now, Guy loves a bit of motocross and trials riding, and is working towards being the first man to 300mph on a standard motorcycle. Never a dull moment!
