Guy Martin Racing Website Privacy Statement

This statement relates to our privacy practices in connection with this website. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of other websites. Any external links to other websites are clearly identifiable as such. Some technical terms used in this statement are explained at the end of this page.

Cookies – updated 22nd May 2012 – and as simple as we could make it!
GuyMartinRacing (GMR) is hosted using a Content Management System (CMS) provided by WordPress and is hosted on a Linux Server by Zen Internet running PHP and MySQL. WordPress and GMR use what are known as first party cookies (small text files we place on your system) to ensure your navigation and session information is consistent moving from page to page. We use these cookies to make sure you can comment on blog posts. However, we don’t require that you login to do this. All comments are anonymous to other users, and you don’t even need to use your own name. If you disable or block all our cookies, you should still be able to navigate through our website, however we can’t guarantee that it will function as originally intended.

We also use two other types of cookies on GMR – the first of these are Social cookies. They are used to allow you to ‘like’ a blog post, or ‘like’ the Official GuyMartinRacing page on Facebook. We also allow you to ‘Tweet’ about the blog or news items on Twitter.com and all of this functionality is provided by a service called addthis.com It’s entirely up to you if you choose to do this, but a new EU law says that we need to ask your permission before we even add that kind of functionality to our website. So – we disable it by default and you have to opt-in to see our sharing buttons.

The last type of cookie we use is an analytics cookie. This is provided by Google and we use it for some of the following: to see how many visitors we have, where those visitors come from – both geographically when available, and also if they came to us from another website. We also use it to see how our visitors progress through the site, if they stick around, how long they stick around, and what they look at *while* they’re sticking around. We don’t see *who* you are, but once again, you can opt-out of this if you like.

When you visit our site from the 22nd May 2012, you’ll see we’ve added a new information bar at the top of the screen, which tells you that we use cookies and asks if you would like to allow cookies for this site, or all sites that use the same form of ‘cookie consent’ provided by silktide.com. We block Social Cookies and Analytics Cookies by default. If you choose to leave it this way, you will see this bar on every page, and will not see any social sharing widgets or Facebook ‘Like’ buttons. We will also not be able to gather information about your session to pass through to our Google Analytics account. If you choose to allow cookies, you’ll only be allowing Social and Analytics. We don’t use any of the nasty cookies other sites might use.
