Guy’s TT conclusion

nw-tt-9-78

Now then all, Isle of Man 09, eh? Not too bad, but could have been better is the verdict. Ok, three podiums is more than anyone else got but I’d still like more, and the number 1 spot. But I’m back in one peice so it could have been worse, couldnt it?

Straight off the ferry on Saturday morn I thought ‘Where to now? Farm, mow grass, chilll out or work on trucks? I know I’ll work on trucks.’ So straight down to the wagon yard but my dad works like a good un and had got everything finished, so that was it. I ended up in the Polish truck drivers caravan with Chris the transport manager drinking the homemade vodka and eating Polish sausage. Not a mention of motorbikes just plenty of sluring, piss taking and garlic dip. Next thing I knew it was Sunday morn and I got on with mowing the grass.

So the conclusion to the 2009 TT is, woking with my mates worked, they all worked faultlessly, good laugh, the problem we had was not our fault,  working outside of the pits is the future and most importantly, milk allways in first. Thanks a million for the mega support over there, sorry if i was a bit busy to talk to folk, it’s just I stuck to my “first things first” motto. Thanks a million.

Now then Guy… All in one piece and able to do it all again next year. Will you be treating yourself to the mega avalanche thingy now…?

  6. Ben Turner says:

Well done Guy. A good weeks work and you kept us all entertained with your telly interviews! Watch out for the home made booze. It really CAN make you blind. The other thing that’s supposed to do that is just a myth (I hope).

  7. Ian Logan says:

Gutted for you not getting your first win. We were cheering you on and biting our nails all week. Looking forward to seeing you at Skerries then the Mid Antrim. By the way – what if you take your tea black????? GO BIG!

  8. Jan says:

Well, for the first time in many years, I wasn’t there to cheer you on to win, but, to be honest, I’d rather have missed it than have to wait another year. Gutted it still hasn’t happened for you mate, but you’re safe and well and able to keep trying, that’s the main thing.

You could tell how chuffed you were working with ‘the lads’ and those snippets of interviews on ITV4 made me grin, especially the bit about being over the moon about Fred Dibnah’s missus giving you that signed book. Incidentally, I used to help out in the bar and catering at Steam Rallies (tea in the day, beer at night!) and once chucked a pint over Fred for calling me a serving wench:-)

Well done Guy. Three podiums has got to be considered a good TT, like you say no one else managed it. No doubting the win will come soon. Good luck for the rest of the season.

  15. Jon says:

I need this explaining, You say ” milk in first” this is of course the only way to go when making tea in a pot. But from the way you described it, it sounds as if you do this s in the mug, That’s just wrong!

    And congrats on the podiums!

    You racing NPS RD 3?

  16. Doug Kelly says:

    Guy,

Just wanted to say hard lines with not getting a win. Hopefully you’ll be back next year for another crack at the whip!

  26. mark perry says:

    Hi Guy
Milk in last that wat my mam taught me.
No win this year but a great TT all the same. There are so many people out there waiting for your first of many wins, so when you do win you will be more popular than the guy called Rossi.
Enjoy your grass cutting and the rest of the season.

    Mark P

  27. Trev says:

Excellent TT and that win will come next year. Hope to see you giving it big licks at Olivers Mount.

  29. Julian Woloszczuk says:

Thanks, Guy, for an entertaining week at the TT (or should that be tea tea), both on and off the bike! In addition to your riding supremacy, you have a career ahead of you in TV. Will someone out there give this man a series, in the vein of the late great Fred Dibnah? Robert LLewellyn, Chris Barrie, watch yer backs! All the best…..

  30. Lol Benson says:

Hi Guy, You have done everyone proud with your determination and 100% + effort. ( three podiums—-FANTASTIC )
The team are proud of you , the fans are proud of you and your family are proud of you.
Did you see that Irish reporter after the interview asking for some translation ? He was not from Lincolnshire.

  31. TEAM FABULOUS says:

Hi Guy, when it comes to the secret art of a bru, i was always with the theory that putting the milk in before the hot water gave the tea a cold shunt!! Thus reducing the temperature of the water and not letting the tea bru to its full potential!!
My 16 chapter theses has gave me grave concerns that there are people out there not bruing their tea within the guide lines which are fore fathers laid their lives down for.
I look forward to your responce.
Whilst i wait, knight to bishops king, check mate i think youll find..

We shall fight them on the beaches.

  37. Don says:

Congrats on the podiums mate but wished you’d got the win as i think we all want you to get it as much as you do!!! Was a little gutted we didnt get to see you out and about in the pits for some snaps and quick chat so hope you take a little more time out for us next year!

  38. Suzzie P says:

I know you’ve hear it a million times by now but a MASSIVE well done for the 3 podiums! Can’t wait to buy MCN on my way home tonight and hope they’ve given you lots of coverage or I may be forced to boycott it in protest!

I was gutted for you when your chain went, but perhaps it just wasn’t your time, and it’ll make the win next year all that bit sweeter?!

Made the most of the sun this weekend and got out on both my motorbike and mountain bike – both of which i’m pretty useless on which just gave me even more respect for what you can do on these things!!!! Don’t suppose you give lessons? (the lesson on how to make a cuppa was very easy to follow so perhaps you’d make a good teacher!)

    Keep safe x

  39. Mattie says:

Guy, Awesome TT, 3 podiums is not to be sniffed at chief. The win will come that is cert. Loved the interview on ITV4 it was legendary. However not convinced about the Milk in first…;)

See you at Oliver’s Mount….which I feel is going to be mega mint.

    Cheers

  40. Archie says:

Wot a load ‘o’ tosh…the only decent remarks made in MCN were from fans and who else made three podiums (almost 4) without a wiff of publicity….jeeeezzzuuusss! What do you need to do to get recognition!? Ahh well …MCN in the bin and kettles on!

  41. Craig says:

  46. Kaz says:

A big massive well done! When I see at a superbike round we will have a good old natter about tea!

Next year will be the one!!!!

  47. Martin says:

Hey Guy. Been going to the TT for a good few years but you made 2009 a unique and memorable event for me. Shame you missed the the top spot this year but congrats for the three podiums. The big one’s coming, no doubt – I’ll be back on the island next year to see it happen. Gotta say, the support you have out there is just huge. I was at Signpost for the senior when the “Guy out!” news came over the radio and everyone – I mean EVERYONE – was gutted for you. Keep up the great riding style and the entertaining interviews. Loved the Radio TT quote while sitting on the bike at the end of Supersport 2, and the subsequent apology. 100% Guy! You’re a real biking character, a true hero to thousands of fans and a million miles away from the HM Plant style of corporate sterility. Good luck.
