Kim Newcombe, legend…

It’s that time of the year again, the cod liver oil is out. Nowt too much of interest to mention. I hit a deer in the van on the way to work the other morning. I’m not doing much for my relations with our Countryside Alliance friends and the Transit hasn’t taken too kindly to it either.

Tight has any one seen this DVD – Love, Speed and Loss? I recommend it.  Kim Newcombe was a man after my own heart. He lived in New Zealand, saw an interesting engine in a boat, thought it’d work in a motor bike, he moved to Germany with his missus to meet the designer, met him, built a bike with  this engine in it, started racing it, won a world championship race, beat agostini, got killed, Kim newcombe, legend. A man with a plan.

And what about this bit of con rod? Out of a scania truck. Don’t reckon it’ll be finished by tea break, do you?

Well it’s nearly all over for the bike racing for another year. It was The Classic Race of the Year last weekend at Cadwell. I’ve got a few short circuit races in Australia end of the month and that’s me. I had a good do at the race of the year. I didn’t win owt but I enjoyed it, so ta to John Sims and his daughter Sam for letting me ride the bike. I’m just sorry I didn’t win. I got beaten by Lee Gorley. Fair play though, he was on it, on it like jam on toast. You don’t get more on it than that, do ya?

Right, more pressing matters. With it being the Classic Bike race last weekend, I went in me old Saab 96 – classic race, classic car. She’s 1972, so tax exempt, she’s tidy and runs a treat. Driving it there got me thinking that when I bought it 7 years ago, it was just to get me by until I got hold of a 1965-70 Volvo Amazon. So anyone who wants to do a swap or buy my saab so i can afford an Amazon, get in touch. Money struggles to buy the class of the Saab, leopard skin interior, flames, V4 ford, dixie horn, Connect Four in the back. I might even chuck in a Stetson hat. That’s if the deal is right. Oh and you’d not have to take offence when I paint the Volvo mat black with replica saab flames. Oh and I’m only the second owner of the Saab and she’s only done just over 100,000 miles.

7th October update…

Now then, winter is getting here, eh? I was out on my pushbike last night and got soaked, so its offical. They’ll soon be advertising Christmas stuff.

Interesting weekend just gone. I worked early early Saturday morning then went to Manchester airport to catch a flight to Belfast, for a Red Torpedo Hein Gericke day. I did a bit of planning with the lads I ride mountain bikes with in Ireland about where to do a road trip next year. It’s either the Megavalanch or the Passport de Soleil. It depends which dates the motorbike racing drop. Has any one done the Passport before? Is it better than the Mega?

Sunday was either going to be a pushbike race or motorbike race. I ended up racing a Honda Hornet with my brother at Cadwell. Nowt too serious, a few burgers, cups of tea and a good crack. Ta very much to Tom Bracken for lending me a bike, much appreciated.

Oh, I never said ta very much to Glyn Moffit at GMV Signs and Graphics and Roger Smales at CBF Screen Prints for doing me some stickers, so ta very much. You can see there going to good use. That’s one on the John Deere. She looks a treat, eh? What about the kart? Reckon I’ll put one on me Saab. It’ll go with the leopard skin a treat.

I’m doing the Classic Race of the Year this sunday at Cadwell on an XR69 suzuki. Nearly end of the year so I’m having to fill me boots. Bob’s your uncle.

Land Speed Legend

chris carr v2 lo resThis looks like a good do that my mates Gary and Boastie are involved with. Chris Carr has just broken the land speed record at Bonneville Salt Flats at 367mph. And he’s doing a one-off talk in Peterborough. Me and my dad are trying to get down there on Thursday night. See you there?
