POACHER TURNED GAMEKEEPER

Picture 1 of 2

Guy, currently at the NW200 preparing for tonight’s practice, has interviewed Jorge Lorenzo for the first part of what will be a regular interview slot in this month’s Performance Bikes, on sale now.

Plans, Tractors and the Lords of Dogtown

Sorry that I’ve been as slack as ever on the entry front.

I’ve got a plan for racing now, seeings as I didn’t get an entry for Portugal I’ve had a good think for a plan of attack.

Easter weekend is the Tour of Flanders on the pushbike, the weekend after is a mountain bike race in Wales, then Thruxton British Championship, where I’m doing Superstock on the Fireblade and Supersport on the CBR600. The weekend after that is Cookstown if i can get hold of the right man to get an entry. Then it’s Oulton Park, same again: Supersport and Superstock, then another mountain bike race, the NW200 after that, Cadwell Supersport after that, then it’s the TT. Phew… I’ll go into detail a bit more when I’ve got a spare minute.

Other business, ta very much to Tim for the loan of this Guy Gibson book, a mega read if you get a chance. While we’re getting cultural you should try see the DVD Lords of Dogtown. It’s one of Shorty’s recommendations. It’s based on the documentary of Dog town and the Z-boys. It’s a mega film and a good reason not to wear a watch. Oh, and there was a classic tractor run round our way. Now that’s a bit of me. I was just a spectator but that’s a job for the future I reckon. 70-odd tractors turned up, so a good old show.

Watch that film if you get chance, gives an idea into what can happen when you get away from the original plan. More tea vicar?

As sharp as a marble

As sharp as a marble, as thick as mince or as green as I am cabbage looking, that’s me. Not the sharpest tool in the box. But, as we where out biking in the Peaks on Sunday, with the guidence of Sponge, Lindsey and Stella, we came across the house of the bloke who invented the widget. It’s something to do with beer tins and giving good head, but whatever it is, it’s made him a quid or two, so he’s obviously not quite as thick as cart grease. Whenever I go to Yorkshire I always coming back a bit wiser.

The farmer’s daughter is now the wrong side of 30, or is that the right side? Whatever side, it was a night out for the farmers and wannabe farmers like me. I reckon the Southern food thing is catching on up here, well it had that night. There was a lot of plate and not a lot of food, nice though. I had to top up with skinheads on a raft when I got home. Happy birthday lass.

Been getting an ear bending for not getting around to Paddy’s to sign those replica lids. Sorry, but it’s been murder at work and barrow jobs, a 30-hour day would cure the job.

I’ll get the calendar up next week. The first race is end of March in Portugal (as long as I get an entry), then mountain biking in Wales, the Cookstown  and Thruxton. Or that’s the plan. It’ll be gospel next week.

Guy is in the latest issue of the car magazine, EVO talking about his new motor. Lovely photos.

Tiger Woods and my all-time favourite bike

Picture 1 of 2

Now then, Tiger Woods looks to have been filling his boots doesn’t he? What do they say, make hay when the sun shines?

Now I know I’m right into my English engineering, but I reckon we are playing at it compared to John Britten in New Zealand. Work of art. so ta to Dean Sever for sending me some pics of my all-time favourite bike. This one is in the Barber Motor Muesum in America. Reckon me granny would go to auction for one those. There are only ten in world.

Italy, Australia and the Kings of Wanneroo

Picture 1 of 4

Late as usual, but Rome in a day and all that. I haven’t been doing much for me carbon footprint in the last few weeks. First I was in Italy doing some stuff for Performance Bikes, then back from there straight to Australia for ten days. Can’t complain though, it’s not real work. is it?

I got back from Australia at the start of the week and it was straight back to a bit of normaility in the truck yard. As for Australia, now that was an eye opener, not so much the place, an eye opener in the way I got taught how to drink by the Irish. I’m not really designed for a lot of drinking but I gave it my best shot. By ‘eck though, them Paddies can’t half drink.

It all got a bit mad one night and Ryan Farquhar got the better of me and shaved one of my sidies off. Not quite sure how it all came about but I feel a bit naked. Reckon I’m going to stick with the one though, a change is as good as the rest.

As for Perth, a bit warm for me I reckon, but that wasnt a bad thing when we went to watch the Melbourne Cup at Ascot race course. The birds there weren’t leaving a lot ot the imagination in the way they were dressing. I’m all for a bit of sun shine when that’s the result. The bike racing was a good laugh. It was a series called the Kings of Wanneroo. It was nothing too serious, all of us on road bikes. We all, even the locals, got a lesson on how to ride by Johnny Rea, fair play to the old boy.

After the racing I managed to get a look in Western Australia’s biggest CAT dealer. Now I thought I worked on big stuff, but it’s not in the same league as these massive V16, 2500hp diesels that go in the 250-odd ton dumpers. I’ve even got a picture of one as my screen saver, sad or what.

Oh, I saw a Rob North BSA triple out there, too. She was tidy, and it’s interesting to see how they do stuff differently to the Brits. Oh, and I saw a Saab wannabe. Don’t recon the flames are as good, though. Prisoner Of her Majestys Service, POMS, that’s what the Sussies call us. I thought they were prisoners, weren’t they?

7th October update…

Now then, winter is getting here, eh? I was out on my pushbike last night and got soaked, so its offical. They’ll soon be advertising Christmas stuff.

Interesting weekend just gone. I worked early early Saturday morning then went to Manchester airport to catch a flight to Belfast, for a Red Torpedo Hein Gericke day. I did a bit of planning with the lads I ride mountain bikes with in Ireland about where to do a road trip next year. It’s either the Megavalanch or the Passport de Soleil. It depends which dates the motorbike racing drop. Has any one done the Passport before? Is it better than the Mega?

Sunday was either going to be a pushbike race or motorbike race. I ended up racing a Honda Hornet with my brother at Cadwell. Nowt too serious, a few burgers, cups of tea and a good crack. Ta very much to Tom Bracken for lending me a bike, much appreciated.

Oh, I never said ta very much to Glyn Moffit at GMV Signs and Graphics and Roger Smales at CBF Screen Prints for doing me some stickers, so ta very much. You can see there going to good use. That’s one on the John Deere. She looks a treat, eh? What about the kart? Reckon I’ll put one on me Saab. It’ll go with the leopard skin a treat.

I’m doing the Classic Race of the Year this sunday at Cadwell on an XR69 suzuki. Nearly end of the year so I’m having to fill me boots. Bob’s your uncle.
